The Regional Government of Madeira has officially become an associate member of the AIR Centre, expanding the network to 20 Atlantic member countries/regions. Following the approval of the Autonomous Region of Madeira's membership authorization, the General Assembly of the AIR Centre confirmed the Regional Government of Madeira as an official associate member on December 10, 2024, committing to collaborate and participate in AIR Centre's activities.
The Regional Government of Madeira recognizes the importance of the collaboration between the Agência Regional para o Desenvolvimento da Investigação, Tecnologia e Inovação (ARDITI) and the AIR Centre. This partnership will strengthen the Atlantic identity of the AIR Centre and boost the scientific and technological development of the Region. ARDITI will represent the Autonomous Region of Madeira at AIR Centre.
ARDITI supports research and experimental development activities while promoting technological dissemination, with a focus on research and innovation in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Through its Research and Development unit, Madeira Oceanic Observatory, ARDITI studies the blue economy of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, promoting its innovative and sustainable development. ARDITI also focuses on the collection and consolidation of biogeochemical, oceanographic and meteorological data to mitigate the impacts induced by climate change and improve forecasts capabilities.

On 15 July 2026, the AIR Centre took part in the official visit of Brazil’s Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, marking the formal launch of the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) Office in Lisbon. The new office is located in the same building that also hosts ApexBrasil, Embratur and Sebrae, reinforcing Brazil’s institutional presence in Portugal and expanding opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

On 2 July, the AIR Centre hosted a meeting at its Lisbon office with the Comendador Anthony Bailey, Honourable Consul-General of His Majesty The King of Tonga to the Portuguese Republic. The discussion brought together AIR Centre Executive Director Miguel Miranda, Deputy Executive Director Mafalda Carapuço, and researcher Ana Faria, marking the beginning of a promising dialogue between the two nations.
