New AIR Centre report highlights strategic direction for species innovation in Atlantic aquaculture
calendar_today August 12, 2026
The AIR Centre has released a new white paper examining a question that is becoming increasingly strategic for Atlantic aquaculture: whether producers should continue relying on established species or invest in developing new ones. The publication, Fostering Aquaculture: New Species vs. Established Species, draws on discussions held during the Atlantic Aquaculture Forum (AAF25) in Terceira, Azores, in November 2025.
The training was led by Ana Carolina Peralta and Tylar Murray from the University of South Florida College of Marine Science, and Nuno Vaz Álvaro from the University of the Azores. Participants were guided through best practices for standardising biological data using internationally recognised standards such as Darwin Core.
