BlueMissionAA2030 launches to accelerate ocean restoration and innovation across the Atlantic and Arctic

The AIR Centre took part in the kick-off meeting of BlueMissionAA2030, held on 1 and 2 October in Dublin, Ireland. The meeting marked the start of a new phase of work supporting the objectives of the EU Mission Ocean & Waters through a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) covering the Atlantic and Arctic regions.

Building on the results of the BlueMissionAA Phase 1 project, coordinated by the AIR Centre, BlueMissionAA2030 will help align local and regional priorities with the Mission's goals for 2030. The project supports efforts to restore marine and freshwater ecosystems, reduce pollution, and advance a sustainable, carbon-neutral blue economy.

The consortium brings together partners from Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Germany and the United Kingdom. Over the next four years, the project will support the uptake and expansion of solutions tested during the first phase, helping successful initiatives reach a wider scale and deliver lasting impact.

Within the consortium, the AIR Centre will lead activities focused on innovation, partnership development and strategic planning. These efforts will strengthen collaboration across the Atlantic and Arctic basins, enhance knowledge exchange between Mission Lighthouses, increase engagement with associated regions, and support the visibility and uptake of project results.

The AIR Centre will also coordinate the Portuguese National Hub Secretariat and oversee the implementation of the National Plan of Action and Annual Operating Plans, developed together with national Mission Champions. This work will help strengthen national ownership of the Mission and support its integration into policy and decision-making processes.

In addition, AIR Centre will mobilise investors and non-traditional financial actors behind Mission Ocean & Waters priorities through tailored investment briefs, showcased success stories and targeted outreach events.

Funded by Horizon Europe, BlueMissionAA2030 will run until 2030, helping mobilise cooperation, innovation and investment in support of the EU Mission Ocean & Waters across the Atlantic and Arctic basins.
