IPMA and AIR Centre sign strategic partnership to advance Atlantic research

On December 23, 2024, the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and the AIR Centre signed an agreement for the development of sustainable collaboration projects between the participants in the cooperation networks in the Atlantic Space.

IPMA and AIR Centre formalized a memorandum, which aims to establish a synergetic relationship between both organizations, aligning the research activities and enhancing the optimization of resources utilization. The IPMA’s mission is to promote scientific research and technological development, as well as the AIR Centre's,  that focuses on promoting an innovative scientific agenda. This memorandum is based on IPMA’s and AIR Centre’s mutual interest in the development of research projects, collaborating with public and private entities in the areas of science and technologies.

On September 10, partners from AIR Centre (Portugal), UNAM (Mexico) and IMar (Cabo Verde) held the kick-off meeting for ATLANTICO_SARG, a new triangular cooperation project funded under the second Call of the SEGIB / Camões, I.P. Triangular Cooperation Fund. Held online, the meeting brougtht together researchers and representatives from all three partner institutions to address the growing impact of Sargassum seaweed flooding on Cabo Verde's coasts.

Australian Ambassador strengthens scientific and diplomatic engagement during visit to the AIR Centre

The Australian Ambassador to Portugal, Dr. Helen Cheney, who also serves as Ambassador to Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau and Sao Tome and Principe, visited the AIR Centre on Terceira Island as part of her official programme in the Azores. The visit emphasized scientific cooperation and the growing relevance of the Atlantic in Australia’s international engagement.
