AIR Centre publishes first annual PhD annual publication ahead of second scholars meeting

The AIR Centre has launched its first annual PhD publication, marking a significant milestone that brings together the research contributions of its international scientists within its PhD Programme. The release comes as the programme prepares to convene its second annual meeting with students.

Funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the programme offers 3–4 year scholarships across a range of disciplines, including marine litter, ocean accounting, robotics, Earth observation, and data science. This research is closely aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Decade of Ocean Science, and the Paris Agreement.

PhD scholars from Brazil, Portugal, India, South Africa, Mexico, Spain, and other countries collaborate with institutions spanning from Norway to Cape Verde, combining scientific excellence with a strong emphasis on policy-relevant outcomes.

This publication represents an important step in the AIR Centre’s commitment to capacity building, interdisciplinary research, and international cooperation, and is released in anticipation of the programme’s second annual meeting with its scholars.
