On April 8, the AIR Centre, represented at the meeting by Natalia Ospina-Alvarez, Head of Biodiversity and Blue Economy, was invited to contribute to a EU-CELAC Working Groups meeting on Research and Innovation, organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, to assess and refine the proposed actions that will shape the upcoming joint EU-CELAC Action Plans.
This session brought together funding agencies and financial institutions to assess and refine the proposed actions that will shape the upcoming joint EU-CELAC Action Plans. These plans focus on three priority areas: Artificial Intelligence in Science; Health; and Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability and Energy Transition, building on the renewed commitment established during the EU-CELAC Ministerial Meeting in September 2025.
The transition from policy dialogue to concrete, scalable actions marks a critical step in strengthening bi-regional cooperation. The AIR Centre contributes to this process by supporting science-based, solution-oriented collaboration, particularly in areas related to ocean observation, climate systems, and data integration.
This effort is closely aligned with the objectives of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA), which promotes inclusive and cooperative research across the Atlantic basin. By linking EU-CELAC priorities with the All-Atlantic framework, the AIR Centre helps reinforce coordinated approaches to shared challenges, including climate resilience, sustainable ocean management, and knowledge exchange.
