All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance Forum 2023

Registrations are now open for the 2023 edition of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA) Forum, which will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, on 21-22 November 2023. The event is co-organised by the South African Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission. The AIR Centre is an active contributor to the implementation of the AAORIA and its related declarations. One of its main activities is a co-leadership of the Joint Pilot Action All-Atlantic Marine Research Infrastructure Network (AA-MARINET). This Joint Pilot Action aims to create a long-term collaboration framework to promote and facilitate the convergence and the alignment of Research and Innovation infrastructure initiatives at the Atlantic Ocean level. AA-MARINET already implemented the All-Atlantic Ocean observation activities web portal which can be accessed through the AA-MARINET portal and implemented three pilot thematic networks: Coastal Observation (AA-COASTNET), Plankton Imaging (I/ITAPINA) and Polar research (NMRI-PR). The outcomes of AA-MARINET can be found here. AA-MARINET is contributing to the development of common standards, reinforce capacity building and align and converge national and international research infrastructures. The AIR Centre is also engaged with the All-Atlantic Floating University Network (@SeaNetwork) implemented under the Joint Pilot Action All-Atlantic Ocean Capacity Development and Training Platform (AA-TP). @SeaNetwork is an All-Atlantic training network promoting coordinated training at sea at various levels (final year undergraduates, postgraduates, young researchers and technicians) and pole to pole Atlantic mobility of trainers and trainees within the network. The main goal is to facilitate, optimize and maximize training at sea opportunities in the Atlantic Ocean. Register here to the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance Forum 2023 and learn more how the AIR Centre is contributing to this ambitious research and innovation Alliance.
