Julia Programming Language Showcased in AIR Centre's Earth Observation Workshop

A special episode of the Julia Dispatch podcast was recorded during the AIR Centre's JuliaEO2025 Workshop, an event that brought together climate scientists and Earth observation specialists to discuss Julia's growing role in environmental research.

Experts explored Julia's adoption in climate sciences, comparing its performance to traditional Fortran models while highlighting its Python-like accessibility. The discussion addressed both Julia's strengths in processing large-scale Earth observation datasets and remaining challenges that developers are actively working to overcome.

The JuliaEO Workshop continues to establish the AIR Centre as a hub for innovative computational approaches to Earth Observation and climate research, bringing together interdisciplinary experts to advance tools for environmental monitoring and modeling.

On September 10, partners from AIR Centre (Portugal), UNAM (Mexico) and IMar (Cabo Verde) held the kick-off meeting for ATLANTICO_SARG, a new triangular cooperation project funded under the second Call of the SEGIB / Camões, I.P. Triangular Cooperation Fund. Held online, the meeting brougtht together researchers and representatives from all three partner institutions to address the growing impact of Sargassum seaweed flooding on Cabo Verde's coasts.

Australian Ambassador strengthens scientific and diplomatic engagement during visit to the AIR Centre
