BLUEMISSION ATLANTIC & ARCTIC 2030

Project overview:

BlueMission Atlantic and Arctic 2030 (BMAA2030) is the Atlantic-Arctic Lighthouse initiative supporting the implementation of the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters. Building on the achievements of BlueMissionAA, the project brings together partners from across the Atlantic and Arctic regions to accelerate the protection and restoration of marine and freshwater ecosystems, reduce pollution, and advance a carbon-neutral, circular blue economy.

Through a coordinated governance framework, support for National Mission Hubs and Mission Champions, improved access to funding and innovation support, and a harmonised monitoring and impact assessment approach, BMAA2030 will help scale solutions that contribute to Mission objectives. The project will also strengthen stakeholder engagement, raise public awareness, and mobilise citizens and organisations across the Atlantic-Arctic basin to drive lasting systemic change towards healthier seas and waters by 2030.

AIR Centre's main contributions: 

The AIR Centre will lead activities focused on innovation, partnership development and strategic planning, strengthening collaboration across the Atlantic and Arctic regions. This work will support knowledge exchange between Mission Lighthouses, foster engagement with associated regions, increase the visibility and uptake of project results, and contribute to mobilising investment for Mission Ocean & Waters priorities through targeted outreach and engagement with investors and non-traditional financial actors.

The AIR Centre will also coordinate the Portuguese National Hub Secretariat, supporting the implementation of the National Plan of Action and Annual Operating Plans developed alongside national Mission Champions. By helping to strengthen national ownership of the Mission and its integration into policy and decision-making processes, the AIR Centre will contribute to advancing Mission objectives at both national and regional levels.
