AIR Centre hosts High-Level Argentine Delegation for Maritime Policy Cooperation

The AIR Centre welcomed the Argentine delegation on June 6, marking a significant step forward in Atlantic maritime cooperation and policy exchange.

The high-level meeting brought together key figures from both nations, including Ambassador Paola Di Chiaro, Secretary for Malvinas, Antarctica, Ocean Policy and South Atlantic Affairs of Argentina, Ambassador Federico Barttfeld, Argentine Ambassador to Portugal, and Secretary Noel Borsellino.

Representing Portugal's maritime interests, the AIR Centre hosted Marisa Lameiras da Silva, Director-General of Sea Policy, and Pedro Gonçalves, Director of Strategy Services, demonstrating the institutional commitment to strengthening bilateral maritime relations.

The visit's primary objective was to deepen understanding of Portugal's current maritime policies while exploring potential areas of cooperation between Argentina, Portugal, and countries within the AIR Centre network. This initiative reflects the growing importance of international collaboration in addressing complex ocean governance challenges.

The meeting underscores the strategic importance of Atlantic cooperation, as well as the challenges in ocean governance, sustainable maritime development, and regional policy coordination. This diplomatic engagement positions these countries to leverage their expertise and resources more effectively, potentially leading to enhanced collaboration in maritime research, policy development, and sustainable ocean management practices across the Atlantic region.
