Azores Celebrates World Space Week 2024 with Climate Change Conference and Tech Park Open Day

In celebration of World Space Week 2024, and in the scope of this year's theme "Space & Climate Change", the Azores is hosting two events that highlight the archipelago's growing role in space technology and climate change research.

On October 4, the Town Hall of Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island, will present the conference Observing Climate Change from Space. Miguel Miranda, CEO of the AIR Centre, will deliver a talk on "The Importance of Space in Climate Change," followed by Pedro Silva's presentation on "From Terceira to the World: Earth Observation Applications." The conference will explore Portugal's future in the space sector, the role of space technologies in climate change monitoring, and innovative Earth Observation applications developed in Terceira.

Following this, on October 7, the Terceira Island Science and Technology Park will open its doors to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour facilities of organizations working in the aerospace sector, including AIR Centre, SST, and Eyecon. The Open Day will begin with a brief presentation in the park's multipurpose auditorium, followed by guided tours of the facilities. Attendees will gain insights into the daily operations of these organizations and participate in a Q&A session.

These events underscore the Azores' commitment to space technology and its applications in addressing global challenges like climate change. They offer a unique opportunity for the public to engage with cutting-edge research and development happening right in their backyard.
