FAPESP launches Call for Innovative Program for South Atlantic and Antarctic Research

The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) has announced the first call for proposals under its new Program for the South Atlantic and Antarctica (PROASA). This initiative aims to advance scientific knowledge and sustainable development in these critical yet understudied regions.

Key highlights of the PROASA program:

  1. Focus: The program targets research in the South Atlantic Ocean and Antarctica, including coastal and marine environments.
  2. Eligibility: PROASA seeks up to five early-career researchers with exceptional backgrounds, offering Young Investigator Grants.
  3. Scope: All areas of ocean sciences are welcome, with Antarctic studies limited to non-fieldwork approaches.
  4. Funding: Each successful application can receive up to 5 million Brazilian reais (BRL).
  5. Deadline: Pre-proposals must be submitted by November 25, 2024.

PROASA emphasizes international competitiveness, leadership potential, and the formation of highly qualified research teams. Successful applicants are expected to contribute to networking and community-building within São Paulo's and Brazil's oceanic and Antarctic scientific circles.
