G-STIC 2019

This year’s G-STIC was the key meeting place and global platform for market-ready integrated technological solutions aiming to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Starting in 2017 with a conference attended by more than 1000 participants, this year’s edition took place from the 20th to the 22nd November and attracted a larger crowd. Given the shared interests, the AIR Centre was present at the event with their own stand, in order to promote the company and the activities as well as acquire further knowledge about production & technology development. The conference focused on 6 societal challenges: climate, education, energy, health, oceans and water, sharing the spotlight with 5 cross-cutting themes: circular economy, geospatial, ICT, gender and youth. The event consists on semi-plenary sessions, during which new methods and goals to be attained are discussed in order to engage both policymakers, delegates of the private sector, researchers and scientists. Deep dives concerning a specific cluster of each technological solution for one or more challenges are based on discussions regarding key policy recommendations and actions needed to deploy them. Space Agencies shape regional priorities at the II Ibero-American Meeting in Madrid

The AIR Centre took part in the II Ibero-American Space Agencies Meeting in Madrid, organised by the Spanish Space Agency on 15 and 16 September. AIR Centre’s Deputy Executive Director, Mafalda Carapuço, represented the organisation alongside heads of space agencies, universities, research centres and industry from across the Ibero-American community.

ATLANTICO_SARG project officially launched to tackle Sargassum impacts through science and collaboration

On September 10, partners from AIR Centre (Portugal), UNAM (Mexico) and IMar (Cabo Verde) held the kick-off meeting for ATLANTICO_SARG, a new triangular cooperation project funded under the second Call of the SEGIB / Camões, I.P. Triangular Cooperation Fund. Held online, the meeting brougtht together researchers and representatives from all three partner institutions to address the growing impact of Sargassum seaweed flooding on Cabo Verde's coasts.

Australian Ambassador strengthens scientific and diplomatic engagement during visit to the AIR Centre

The Australian Ambassador to Portugal, Dr. Helen Cheney, who also serves as Ambassador to Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe, visited the AIR Centre on Terceira Island as part of her official programme in the Azores. The visit emphasized scientific cooperation and the growing relevance of the Atlantic in Australia’s international engagement.
