Identity, Ethics and Society at the 10th Edition of the INESC TEC Autumn Forum

The AIR Centre attended the 10th edition of the INESC TEC Autumn Forum, held yesterday at Casa da Música in Porto. The event coincided with a special celebration of INESC's 40th anniversary in Porto.

This year's forum was dedicated to the theme "The Human Being in the Age of Artificial Intelligence – Identity, Ethics and Society in a Technological World," addressing essential questions about humanity's role amid AI advancements, implications for social organization, preservation of individual and collective identity in an increasingly technological world, and the transformation of education, science, and innovation. The program featured keynote presentations from Marzieh Fadaee (Cohere) and Gitta Kutyniok (LMU Munich), followed by a panel discussion bringing together prominent researchers and thinkers including Arlindo Oliveira (IST/INESC), José Carlos Príncipe (University of Florida), Mário Boto Ferreira (FLUL), Mário Figueiredo (IST), and Sofia Miguens (FLUP), and a special participation of Fernando Alexandre, Minister of Education, Science and Innovation.

The event brought critical discussions on emerging technologies and their implications for research, innovation, and society. These conversations align with the AIR Centre's priorities regarding the application of AI in ocean observation, Earth monitoring, and data-driven decision-making in the Atlantic region.
