JuliaEO26 showcases latest advances in Earth Observation and Data Science

Last week, on January 5-9, we held JuliaEO26 – the 4th edition of the International Workshop on Earth Observation with Julia. The fourth edition of JuliaEO took place last week, bringing together an international community of researchers, developers, and practitioners working at the intersection of Earth Observation, data science, and high-performance computing, using the Julia programming language. JuliaEO26 welcomed speakers from a range of international organisations, including  EUMETSAT, Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC)UT AustinMassachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)University of OxfordUniversity of Illinois Urbana‑ChampaignUniversity of LiègeUniversity of the AzoresMax Planck Institute for BiogeochemistryInterdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), Deltaresand JuliaHub. The programme combined scientific presentations, hands-on sessions, tutorials, and discussions, covering topics such as satellite data processing, machine learning, InSAR, oceanography, and high-performance scientific computing. All sessions were live-streamed, allowing remote attendees to follow the workshop content. JuliaEO26 was organised by the Atlantic International Research Centre, with the support of the Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento (FLAD), the Câmara Municipal de Angra do Heroísmo, and the Governo dos Açores – Vice-Presidency of the Government. We warmly thank all speakers and participants for their engagement and for contributing to a highly collaborative and inspiring edition of JuliaEO.

Meeting with the Hon Consul‑General of the Kingdom of Tonga strengthens dialogue on ocean science and climate cooperation

On 2 July, the AIR Centre hosted a meeting at its Lisbon office with the Comendador Anthony Bailey, Honourable Consul-General of His Majesty The King of Tonga to the Portuguese Republic. The discussion brought together AIR Centre Executive Director Miguel Miranda, Deputy Executive Director Mafalda Carapuço, and researcher Ana Faria, marking the beginning of a promising dialogue between the two nations.
