New Space Atlantic Summit 2025 to spotlight Earth Observation applications in Portugal

The Portuguese Space Agency is hosting the 8th New Space Atlantic Summit 2025 from May 13 to 14, bringing together influential stakeholders from across the global space sector. Under the theme "The Future of Space in Portugal," this landmark event convenes industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, and entrepreneurs to explore strategic opportunities and challenges in Portugal's rapidly evolving space ecosystem.

The programme includes a session titled "Earth Observation - From Data to Decision," featuring AIR Centre's Deputy Executive Director Mafalda Carapuço among distinguished panelists, and with moderation by Carolina Sá from the Portuguese Space Agency. This discussion will explore how Portugal is leveraging Earth observation capabilities to address real-world challenges as digital transformation accelerates across industries.

The panel will showcase innovative Portuguese projects demonstrating how satellite data is revolutionizing decision-making processes in critical domains including territorial monitoring and management, security, defense, sustainability, and public health. With a focus on practical applications, the session will highlight how space technologies are being put directly at the service of communities throughout Portugal.

The event's programme addresses additional key topics including emerging markets for Earth Observation data, space sustainability, space traffic management, and the integration of new technologies like artificial intelligence into space operations. With Portugal strategically positioned as a gateway between Europe, Africa, and the Americas, the event aims to strengthen international partnerships while highlighting the nation's growing capabilities in space innovation.
